Spend a full day exploring the green city of Hue, the former capital of Vietnam under the Nguyen Dynasty. Start with the Forbidden Purple City, which was formerly the imperial seat of the Nguyen emperors. This is a large complex of temples, pavilions, tombs, walls, gates, museums, and galleries with art and costumes from various periods of Vietnamese history.
Continue to the Thien Mu Pagoda, “The Celestial Lady”, one of the most revered sites in Hue.
Have lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant.
In the afternoon, visit the mausoleum of Emperor Tu Duc, the fourth emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty of Vietnam, who reigned from 1847-1883. The buildings and gardens are shaped according to geomancy (Feng Shui) guidelines. Together they form a large park where the beauty of nature is everywhere. Stop by the colorful workshop that makes conical hats and incense sticks to learn about the crafts and take great pictures.
End the day with an interactive stroll through the central Dong Ba Market. Sense and touch the exotic flavors, ingredients, and have fun with some good bargains.
